Big Dig day celebrates the start of the growing season and encourages people to visit their local Capital Growth supported Community Garden.

Maryon Park Community Garden, one of Capital Growth’s flagship gardens is taking part and have a drop-in open day on Saturday 27th April 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. Visitors are invited to see how Maryon Park Community Garden is developing.

The Community Garden provides organic growing plots for local people, a Forest School space for primary schools, a garden meeting room and volunteer opportunities.

On Saturday 27st April visitors can learn more about the Community Garden, enjoy tours and talks about the Garden and the historic Maryon Park, the location of the 1960’s film ‘Blow-Up’.

There will be a plant and woodcraft sale, refreshments and the lunchtime pizza oven.

At 2.00 pm Simon and Verity from COATS will run a free family Outdoor Art Workshop in the Forest School.

“The Big Dig Day is about encouraging people and families to visit their local community garden. Whether you are an experienced gardener or new to gardening or just want to see how your local project is developing you will be welcome,” says community garden chair Tim Anderson.

Maryon Park Community Garden is a not-for-profit voluntary project situated in the former council plant nursery in Maryon Park.

The Community Garden in Maryon Park is throwing open its doors this Saturday as part of Capital Growth’s Urban Harvest event. Its chair TIM ANDERSON explains more…

Get a taste of London's edible gardens by dropping in to Maryon Park Community Garden in Charlton, one of Capital Growth’s flagship gardens, from 10am to 4pm.

Capital Growth is London’s largest food growing network, with over 2,000 gardens throughout the city.

At the Maryon Park Community Organic Food Growing Garden, activities include:
• Tours of the Garden and Forest School.
• Display of photos from the 1966 cult film Blow Up that was shot in Maryon Park.
• Activities for children: Making bird feeders.
• Pizza oven fired up from 12noon, bring your own dough and toppings
• Refreshments: Organic teas & coffee, cake and herb teas
• Jams and Chutney Sale
• Wood Craft Sale with Bird Boxes
• Plant and Cacti Sale

In the Community Garden Forest School area there will be a free Family Outdoor Art Workshop from 2pm to 3pm, lad by Simon Woodward from the Community Outdoor Art Therapy Service.

How to find the Community Garden: Enter Maryon Park from the main entrance in Maryon Road, follow the path to the left past the park lodge and find the Community Garden at the end of the park perimeter fence. Look out for the signs and bunting.

Has the belated appearance of the sun got you itching to get out into the garden? Then the good people behind Maryon Park Community Garden have been in touch…

Big Dig Day celebrates the start of the growing season and encourages people to visit their local Capital Growth-supported Community Garden.

Maryon Park Community Garden, one of Capital Growth’s flagship gardens are taking part and have a ‘Drop-in Open Day’ on Saturday 21st April from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.

The Community Garden provides organic growing plots for local people, a Forest School space for primary schools and volunteer opportunities.

On Saturday visitors can learn more about the Community Garden, enjoy tours and talks about the Garden and the historic Maryon Park, the location of the 1960s film Blow-Up.

There will be refreshments including a pizza oven, children’s activities, a plant sale, and a fundraising stall. Visitors can join in with gardening activities or join the waiting list for a plot.

There will be family events: ‘PJ the Magical Clown’ at 1pm and Family Outdoor Art at 2pm.

Maryon Park Community Garden is in Maryon Park, situated on the site of the old plant nursery. Follow the signs from the main park gate by the Park Lodge, 126, Maryon Road, Charlton, SE7 8DH.

Walk past the Park Lodge following the perimeter path to the left and find the Community Garden entrance at the end of the park fencing. Look out for the signs and bunting.

There will also be a pub quiz in aid of the community garden at the White Swan in Charlton Village on Monday 30 April, beginning at 7.30pm.

    Maryon Park Community Garden, one of Capital Growth’s flagship gardens are taking part and have a Drop-in Open Day on Saturday 22nd April, 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.

    The Community Garden provides organic growing plots for local and retired people, a Forest School for primary schools and volunteer opportunities for individuals and corporate groups as well as educational visits for special schools.

    On Saturday 22nd April visitors can learn more about the Community Garden, enjoy tours and talks about the plots, orchard, wild flower bank, Forest School and the historic Maryon Park, location of the 1960s film Blow-Up. There will be refreshments including a pizza oven, children’s activities, a plant sale, and a fund raising stall. Visitors can join in with gardening activities or join the waiting list for a plot.

    There will be family events: PJ the Magical Clown at 1pm and Family Outdoor Art at 2pm.

    Maryon Park Community Garden is a not-for- profit voluntary project situated in the former council plant nursery in Maryon Park. Now in its fifth year, Capital Growth, the Olympic Transform Fund, City Hall, the Friends of Maryon Park, the London Tree and Woodland Trust, Greenwich Parks Forum and Tesco’s Bags of Help have help fund the Community Garden.

    The Maryon Park Community Garden has been nominated for a Tesco Bags of Help grant to upgrade the garden fencing and gates.

    We may receive £8K, £10K or £12K depending upon a vote in local Tesco stores.

    Voting starts on Monday 31st October and lasts until Sunday 13th November.

    If you would like to support the work of the Community Garden, please vote for us at one of these participating stores.
