Today brought good news for Charlton Lido swimmers with the announcement that the current opening times will be extended through November. In previous years the timetable has been cut back in winter with the heated pool closed on some weekdays. The centre was one of the first to reopen after lockdown and has been busy since with swimmers taking the opportunity to exercise outdoors.
**Winter Timetable Update**
We are excited to inform you all we have extended the current opening times throughout November as well, for the first time!
This means you can swim 06.30-20.30 weekdays and 09.00-17.00 at weekends!#JustKeepSwimming
We’ve also learnt that the centre’s popular Swim Doctor sessions will restart in November – a chance for adults to improve their swimming technique and fitness. Booking opens October 28th via the app or website, with the first sessions starting Tuesday 3rd November at 9:30am, then Friday 7am & Saturday 11am. Spaces will be limited and must be pre-booked.
In other lido news, the pool covers were recently replaced, which has – in this writer’s experience at least – improved the average water temperature, particularly in the mornings.
The lido’s Swim Doctor sessions – drop-in swimming classes for adults, included in lido membership fees or £3 on top of the cost of a swim – are now running 6 times a week:
Tuesday 9.30–10.30am and 12.30–1.30pm
Friday 7–8.30am (fitness) and 9.30–10.30 am (technique)
This writer highly recommends these classes as a way to improve your swimming as part of a supportive group of swimmers of varying experience and ability, without having to commit to regular attendance.
@Swim__Doctor@charltonlido is for all swimmers that can swim 50m regardless of ability, technique and injuries. It is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and great for your wellbeing!

Following the recent Customer Forum meeting, and feedback from members over the summer, the Lido has now published the winter pool programme which will commence on Monday 9 October. The good news is that it follows the broadly the same pattern as last year but with the addition of three lunchtime sessions per week, two of which replace the 2-4pm slots on Monday and Tuesday which were the quietest times of the week. It’s hoped the new pattern will enable more people to swim regularly throughout the winter season. The early morning opening on Monday will also continue through the winter, in response to popular demand.
Monday 6.30am-2pm & 4pm-8pm
Tuesday 7am-2pm & 4pm-8pm
